Caring for your Stoneware

The stoneware that we sell in our studio is oven, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher safe. We suggest the following guidelines to extend the life of your work of art.

MICROWAVE

Stoneware is safe for use in the microwave. Please use caution in handling hot ceramic items.

OVEN

Stoneware can be safely warmed or heated in the oven. Place stoneware in the oven and allow it to heat gradually when the oven is turned on. Stoneware is oven-safe up to 450F. Never place cold stoneware items in a preheated hot oven or on the burner of a gas or electric range, grill, or open flame. Rapid temperature changes can cause thermal shock, which means your stoneware has the potential to crack and chip.

FREEZER

Allow your stoneware piece to cool before placing it in the freezer to avoid thermal shock. Hot ceramic items should not be placed directly into the freezer.

CLEANING

Stoneware may be placed in the dishwasher. Load the dishwasher carefully so that pieces do not bump into each other and chip. Use a non-abrasive dishwasher detergent. If cleaning by hand, avoid using abrasives such as steel wool or “gritty” cleansers. Stoneware should be brought to room temperature before cleaning to avoid thermal shock.
